• Nearly There!
There is more rushing in the hallways. The classroom and playground volume has picked up, and the chatter amongst students first thing in the morning has become more animated. Indeed, we are close to a holiday! In the Elementary School, the excitement before a holiday is noticeable.
The teachers continue to do an amazing job of maintaining an academic focus while taking advantage of the ‘holiday’ season in their classwork. This is particularly important this year as celebrations and general ‘fun’ activities are so limited outside of school. We also recognise that families are hit hard with limitations on family get togethers and travel. For a sense of community and service the fifth grade is doing outstanding work to manage the Shoebox Appeal using their learned understanding of the challenges faced by refugees currently living in Greece. The ‘act of giving’ is visible in all the classrooms.
There was great excitement this week as recording sessions continued in our own ISA Theatre and classrooms. The ISA community will be able to log into an exciting line up of entertainment beginning with the excellent ‘Around the Fireplace’ this Friday and continuing with concerts next Friday and the 14 and 15 of December. PAY close attention to the Community Hub to gain access to the performances. It’s so exciting to be talking about actual performances, with some live sessions, to highlight the talents of our students and, of course, to spread some much needed joy within the ISA community. Congratulations to all of the teachers involved in the organisation, management and recording of the concerts and the different plays within ‘The Lost Panto’.
• Meet the Reindeer
On Monday, 7th December, some of the reindeer from Britain’s only naturally occurring herd will be visiting The International School. The Scottish herd serves an important role in the conservation of a species increasingly under threat in their native lands. Unfortunately, parents won’t be able to visit with us this year and due to Covid restrictions we will not be able to run the usual shop selling reindeer items, but the handlers will take donation boxes with them so that you can help with their upkeep.
