Dear ISA Families,
Thank you for completing our family wellbeing survey. The theme for Children’s Mental Health this year in the UK is “Express Yourself”. We always appreciate when you take the time to express yourself in our surveys as it helps to guide important academic and wellbeing decisions for the school. Soon, the students will have the opportunity to express themselves with our upcoming yearbook theme as well.
Results from the family wellbeing survey were encouraging. We are coping with covid, and we are reaching out for help. 94% said they were coping with all the new routines (80% well or very well). But far more meaningful were the comments: “we think [Virtual School] is fantastic and are so grateful the kids aren’t falling behind,” “virtual school is amazing”, “meets are fantastic” and the “teachers are brilliant” are some (far from all) of the more enthusiastic responses. Parents also observed, “the lessons run smoothly”, “the attention and care has been amazing … kids are engaged and having fun learning”, and also appreciated the “clear and concise instructions from teachers and excellent support if needed.”
You also expressed concerns regarding coping with stress in general, upcoming exam board decisions, and knowing whom to contact for questions or specific concerns. Some have said they don’t want to share their concerns because they don't want to be a bother. Please don’t worry, we do want to hear from you, and by sharing it will help to alleviate stress levels.
Our principals and vice principals are available to answer questions (Mr. Newbury and Mr. Kajiwara in elementary, Dr. Carmichael and Ms. Cusworth in secondary, and our head of preschool Ms. Taylor). Mr Little (head of school), has a virtual coffee each Friday-please drop in, he wants to hear from you! You can find contacts for our counsellors on the safe section of the community hub. Our counsellors, Ms. Barker (high school) and Mrs. DeGraw (whole school) are available to promote wellbeing habits, discuss academic or personal concerns, and serve as an advocate for students and parents at ISA.
Thank you for reaching out to us. Stay safe and well.
Warm Regards,
Valerie DeGraw
Guidance Counsellor
