Thinking Skills
This week our new National Honor Society students were inducted into the organisation with a virtual ceremony and several of our students have been participating in events organised by the University of Aberdeen to celebrate International Women's Day. It has also been British Science Week and activities have been shared through the morning announcements to encourage students to engage with STEM thinking.
STEM stands for Science-Technology-Engineering-Mathematics but is more than just a cluster of subject disciplines. It represents a way of thinking and an approach to tackling problems that has applications far beyond a lab experiment. Associated skills include: problem solving, critical thinking, resilience, flexibility, data interpretation, communication, creativity, collaboration, investigation and the design process. These qualities can be developed and applied across all subjects and the STEM steering group at school works to promote their inclusion in our planning.
The big news looking ahead of course is our return to school next week and there is an air of excitement and anticipation about welcoming students back. There has been a considerable amount of information sent home to families this week and I hope you have been able to follow the plans and identify the necessary forms.
