From the Middle/High School Principal

A Good Problem

At our last Middle/High school faculty meeting, teachers were asked if there was anything we needed to look at or could improve during this 'blended' return to the building. I was pleased to hear several voices comment that the bicycle parking area was getting rather full.

Many families, kindly gave up their child's place on the bus in favour of walking or cycling to school to allow the routes to run as normal with the required social distancing in place. There are benefits on many levels to this switch in transportation modes. The most obvious is the exercise but there is also a significant boost to wellbeing which I would expect to have a positive impact on that day's learning. Families are either getting to do something together, or students are starting to develop more independence. Sustrans have made a strong case on their website as to why we should walk or cycle [https://www.sustrans.org.uk/our-blog/get-active/2019/everyday-walking-and-cycling/9-reasons-to-cycle-scoot-or-walk-the-school-run].

The weather is picking up and the mornings getting much lighter. When we all start back full time after the break, it may be worth taking advantage of this free boost to our days. And for my concerned colleagues, I am pleased to say that the school is planning to purchase an additional, covered bike shelter.
