• Fourth Grade Sailing
This week, fourth graders had the opportunity to do some sailing on Loch Skene. This was a first time event for many of our Elementary students and the children were excited (and a little nervous) about the opportunity. Wet, cold and windy weather gave the experience quite an extra challenge, especially on Friday. The children went sailing in pairs and in groups of three. When I went with one group on Thursday they did so well, and at the end, many chose to go into the Loch. There was much excitement and a few screams as they entered the cold water! But, as they emerged onto land, despite some chattering teeth, everyone had big smiles. Walking back to the starting point along the shores of Loch Skene one student reflected, “This was the best field trip I’ve ever been on.”

• Natural Excitement
Just saying the words ‘last weeks’ causes a wide range of reactions from students, parents and teachers. Excitement about the start of summer is perhaps the most common reaction by children (and teachers). In the Elementary School, we work especially hard with the younger children to maintain a strong focus on learning right up to the last day. Of course, teachers are creative and put even more energy into choosing engaging activities that allow students to easily immerse themselves into their studies. We also celebrate our learning. I hope as parents you were able to virtually join in an activity or two for the Art & Writing Fair this week.
As parents, you can help as well with student focus in these final weeks, through your encouragement at home especially as it pertains to maintaining high expectations for quality work. We continue to look forward to a number of activities and trips as we approach June, including Sport days.
