 National Honors Society

Last week our new National Honour Society (NHS) members were inducted in the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. In addition to a strong academic standing, members of the NHS have good character references, must have shown a commitment to service and have taken on leadership responsibilities. Applications are reviewed by a panel of teachers and the club comprises students in Grades 10, 11 and 12. The students have been a little hamstrung by Covid and popular events such as the school-wide Trunk or Treat have not been possible. However, they have continued to provide a key service throughout the pandemic in the form of peer tutoring. During lockdown they took this support network online and now we are back in the building, NHS members run sessions in the library every Tuesday afternoon. This individualised, specialist support is a real boost to some students and the service they provide is much appreciated.

Well done to our new NHS members and thank you for all you will bring to the school community. 

Looking ahead to next week, you will be aware that government expectations regarding masks in classrooms are changing next week. Secondary students still have to wear them in corridors and communal areas in all schools. You will have heard from Mr Little though that we plan to ask students to continue to wear masks in the classroom at ISA. One of our school values is Community and looking out for one another's wellbeing and comfort level is a part of this. Keeping a mask on is an easy way for students to support that ISA value. I hope it won't be too long before we can let go of the remaining mitigations but for now we are keen to minimise cases and avoid disruptions to teaching and learning in any way we can.
