From the Middle/High School Principal

 Conferences and Exams

Parent teacher conferences are upon us again and a slightly longer time window will allow all meetings to take place during these scheduled days. The move to online Meets has meant more parents and carers are able to participate and it is great that we are able to strengthen home-school partnerships in this way. The recent progress reports offer a helpful insight ahead of these conversations and going through this report with your child will make the meeting time as productive as possible. Please note that there is two-minute 'passing time' built into the time allowed for each conference.

Grade 10 students will soon start their mock or semester exams and advisors and counsellors have supported with revision strategies and techniques. For all students, as we get closer to major assessments, students would do well to be...

Reviewing shorthand notes and flash cards

Following their course guides for what needs to be covered

Looking over worked examples and previous tests and quizzes

Testing their understanding with unfamiliar problems

Varying the resources they revise from

Seeking help from teachers to clarify gaps in their knowledge

It is also important that students get a good amount of sleep each night, eat healthily and make time for exercise. Closing social media and turning down/off loud music can make revision time more effective. If a student is wrestling with a problem for a long time, they should move on and speak to their teacher. Continuing to develop and refine study habits is a really important practice for all our students.

Here's to a strong finish to the semester.
