Youth Philanthropy Initiative (YPI)
Grade 9 students presented their final YPI projects earlier this week. Sadly current guidelines meant we couldn't have parents in the audience but the event was live-streamed. The YPI project is a charitable endeavour by the Wood Group that encourages students to identify global issues and engage with local charities. The winning group won £3000 for the charity they were advocating for; Grampian Women's Aid. The research and collaborative planning is undertaken as part of our Global Perspectives course. It is excellent preparation for the assessed Team Project in grade 10, allowing for the teaching and development of valuable interpersonal and research skills. The standard of the presentations was once again raised on the previous year and the students involved can be proud of their efforts. Many groups had made strong connections with their chosen charity and the winning team actively fundraised.
Higher up the school our Grade 12 students are coming to the end of their CAS (Creativity, Activity and Service) programmes, closing out reports with the all important reflective stage. Our Duke of Edinburgh students continue to undertake service as part of their awards, and middle school students in Health and Citizenship classes are working on self directed service learning projects.
As well as the benefits to the recipient, helping others has many positive impacts on the individual including boosting wellbeing and increasing self confidence. I hope your child is reaping the benefits of serving their community in some form or other.
