Co-curricular Programme
Thank you to everyone that came to the recent Open House. It was great to see so many parents and carers in the theatre. With the closed campus, this was the first proper visit many families had been able to make and I think we were all grateful to have our ambassadors on hand to point us in the right direction between classes.
In the opening presentation I mentioned our co-curricular programme and it is now only a couple of weeks until our Activities Week. We have a series of local day activities for students unable to travel for whatever reason along with a range of residential opportunities. The overnight trips offer students an opportunity to immerse themselves in a different environment with personal development taking place over an extended period of time. The trips will strengthen existing friendships and are often the catalyst for the formation of new ones. All of our options, day or overnight, will involve the students trying something new and taking themselves out of their comfort zones: essential experiential learning.
This week we have also had an IB art trip to galleries and workshops in Edinburgh, a Duke of Edinburgh expedition, an outing for grade 6 to Bennachie and many high school students are looking forward to a first MUN (Model United Nations) trip to Leiden next month. We have an IB Biology and Environment Systems and Society (ESS) trip running this weekend and planning is underway for a Spanish language trip in January. We are also excited about our middle and high school sports teams travelling to their tournaments. On that last point, you will have seen a note from Mr DeGraw about availability for upcoming tournaments. Please complete that at your earliest convenience if your child is training with one of the teams.
These co-curricular activities are an integral part of a child's school experience and are likely to be the memories they take with them into later life. I hope when opportunities like these come round across the year, you will encourage your child to get involved and make the most of what is on offer.
