Very important! Doctors are even prescribing exercise for depression as noted in this NHS post here.
For adolescents, regular exercise lowers the risk of depression, and promotes self esteem and connectedness. There is a strong correlation of less anxiety in children who exercise. Physical activity might also improve adolescent sleep patterns. Emotional self regulation and social skills are learned naturally through sports, along with the added benefit of helping to build new and varied social circles.
In addition to regular PE classes, our ISA students have the opportunity to join after school sports and clubs. Don’t forget to check out the updated ISA After School Activity Schedule. Exercise is not only important for healthy bodies, it is vital to our mental wellbeing. Even moderate exercise makes a difference.
Have a lovely weekend!
Warm regards,
Valerie DeGraw
