Preparing for Assessments
This Friday a speaker from RGU is coming in to talk to our grades 9, 10 and 11 students on the topic of looking after one's mental health during exams. Unit assessments and semester exams can be stressful for students and it is important each student is in a good place at the time of the test so they can give a good account of themselves. Despite plans for the future, summative assessments are currently the main tool used by exam boards, including the IBDP, to determine final grades. It is important then that our students are comfortable sitting them and know how to prepare.
One of our advisory strands is Study Skills and counsellors also give time to working with students throughout the year on approaches to revision and general time management. Earlier this year a guest speaker worked with some year groups on learning strategies. Hopefully by the time the grade 12 exams come round our students will know what works for them. Along with reviewing materials, students should ensure they make time for exercise and keep good sleep habits. There are many 'marginal gains' to be made that will lead to success and I hope the students will take on board the guidance they are getting.
