I hope your Parent-Teacher Conferences are very productive next week, and that those follow-up talks at home serve to both acknowledge the effort your children are making and to provide clear expectations about future goals and how to achieve them. The formal conferences are part of a vibrant communication process that should continue with regular feedback all year between and amongst students, teachers and parents/carers. Please note that Thursday, November 10, and Friday, November 11, are both non-student days, so the children will have a three-day week (Monday to Wednesday) next week.
In the Elementary School, we are delighted that we can invite parents/carers into the building for face-to-face conferences. If, however, you would prefer to have a virtual conference, please indicate this to your child’s classroom teacher so that they can generate and issue a Google Meet link for the time slot that you have booked.
Our Assistant Principal, Paul Bertolotto, regularly speaks in quite eloquent terms about the importance of triangulating our approach to a holistic education, which includes both social-emotional and academic development. The Parent-Teacher Conferences are opportunities to strengthen the relationships between students, teachers and parents/carers. Through our conversations and shared observations, we can ensure that we are working together to support the children on the next steps in their learning journeys.
On the subject of triangulation and ensuring that we have a shared approach to all we do at ISA, I would like to ask the families that use the playground after school hours to help the children to follow the normal guidelines for using the equipment and sharing the space with respect and kindness. I’ve shared this document on the Community Hub which details the rules that we have in place during school hours, which I hope is helpful to you when supervising your children after 3:00pm. We ask that the children are supervised at all times, just as they would be during school, and that they remain in the playground areas and do not venture across the lower road into the wooded area (i.e., the road that the buses would use to get to and from the entrance to the school).
