Peace Day
This Friday grade levels across middle and high school recognised a Peace Day at ISA. A team from our Youth Advocacy Group set up an activity for the longer advisory time that involved students watching a thought provoking video clip selected for their age group, and then reflecting on the importance of peaceful resolutions and thinking about how peace could be promoted. Students wrote their thoughts or hopes into the heart of an origami dove they produced as part of the session. These doves were pinned to a board to produce an impressive display.
Close to the play area, you may have noticed a marble obelisk. This peace pillar formed a part of the annual school wide celebration the school used to hold several years ago. I hope that this action by a group of our students is a starting point for getting us back to that yearly day of reflection. Working towards peace across the world seems more important now than at any time in most of our young people's lives.
