In-service Day
This Thursday, while your children were at home, starting off a 5-day weekend to recharge their batteries at mid-term, the staff at ISA were involved in our in-service day. This is a chance for us to take the time to have conversations with one another around a range of vital topics, all centred around the idea of maximising the learning opportunities and positive experiences of the children in our care. For example, we held discussions about student wellbeing and encouraging positive, prosocial behaviours; opportunities for cross-curricular/interdisciplinary projects and units of study; how we might harness the positive potential of AI tools such as ChatGPT; and much, much more. We firmly believe in the idea that we should all be “lifelong learners” - and this is an expression of that idea in practice.
Parent Volunteers
Firstly, a huge thank you to parents and carers who have been volunteering their time to offer learning opporutnities for our students (and our staff). A special thank you must go to Emma Jaclin for the time, effort and care she puts in to helping with the displays of student artwork in our hallways (seen in the photos in this week's collage). We love it when parents come in to share their expertise, their interests and their time - so thank you for responding when our teachers make the call! Secondly, please be on the lookout for some requests related to the upcoming performance of The Lion King Kids. We will need help in the run up (with sets, props, costumes), as well as on the nights of the performance itself (including supervision offstage, make-up and more). We are hoping that we will have many volunteers when these calls for assistance come out.
Book Week is coming
World Book Day is Thursday, March 2. At ISA, the Preschool and Elementary School will celebrate Book Week from February 27 - March 3, with a range of activities planned. There will be an introductory assembly as part of the usual Monday morning assembly in the QET. However, there will also be another assembly on Thursday morning (8:30am in the QET) that will launch a special day of activities focused on the joy of reading (with a particular emphasis, this year, on non-fiction books). Drugs Prevention Parent Talk, Tuesday 21st February at 1pm in the Seminar Room
Students in Grades 7-11 will take part in drug prevention talks next Tuesday. As part of this input, a guest speaker will be conducting a Parent Talk. Parents of children across the school are welcome to attend. Sarah Cusworth, the MS/HS Assistant Principal has put out this note about the event:
“We will have a guest speaker giving drug prevention talks with our students and community. The parent workshop will be on Tuesday 21st February at 1pm in the seminar room. A virtual meet option is here for those who cannot attend face-to-face. Never has drug education in schools been so necessary with latest figures showing that a staggering 20%-25% of 11-15 year old children in the UK have tried illegal drugs. That figure doubles with 16-24 year olds. It is clear that the old "JUST SAY NO" approach does not work and with the escalating strengths and new strains of drugs hitting the streets, combined with the decreasing cost of drugs and the ever increasing number and widespread availability of "legal highs," effective drug education is of paramount importance .
