Changing for the Worse?
March 24th sees the start of Climate Week North East. This is an annual 10 days of events in Aberdeen City and Shire, that are designed to raise awareness of climate change and show what we each can do to make a difference and live sustainably, as well as highlight what is already going on here in the North East.
CWNE21 is running 24th March - 2nd April this year, with over 150 events on. There are lots of family friendly events to choose from: craft activities, tours, litter picks, Pokemon sharing, and walks, among others. The festival starts off with family fun days in the Barn, Banchory and Hazlehead Park, Aberdeen and finishes with one in Duthie Park, Aberdeen, with lots of indoors and outdoors fun.
Our school's mission statement talks about 'developing socially responsible, active global citizens' and an understanding of climate change and a proactive mindset towards sustainable development is central to this. We offer courses across high school that encourage engagement with global issues (environmental management, environmental systems and societies, global perspectives, world studies extended essays) and our middle school health and citizenship course challenges students to tackle an environmental issue of their choice. We also have clubs running across the school and are proud to fly the EcoSchools flag.
