Parent-Teacher Conferences
After talking with a few parents, children and the teachers here at ISA, it seems fair to say that the Parent-Teacher Conferences were a highly-appreciated opportunity to discuss children’s progress and plans for the next steps in their learning here at ISA and beyond. I encourage you all to take some time to chat with your children about the discussions that you had, emphasising the importance of trying one’s best and striving to bring the ISA values to life. We place an enormous premium on the value of communication, so please do get in touch with your children’s teachers or with me if you have any questions or observations to share.
Inspection Visit
The visiting team of inspectors will arrive at midday on Monday, March 20. They will be with us for most of the week and your children will doubtless see several of them at different points each day. Some lessons will be observed and some students will participate in group discussions with members of the visiting team. At the Monday morning assembly, I will make reference to the ISA Value of Community. I will be explaining to the children that the team of inspectors are visitors to our school and, as such, we need to remember to be gracious and welcoming hosts, proud to show our guests our “home” and how we do things. I will ask the children to consider how they would respond to a guest who is making a visit to their family homes and how this can inform how we receive and interact with the visiting team. We are a wonderful community of learners, teachers and families, so it is important that they see us for who we are. I am confident that they will be struck by the warmth and generosity of greeting that our new families routinely remark upon when they arrive at ISA. Please encourage your children to be open to answering the visitors’ questions about their learning and their experiences of life at ISA.
ISA ES & Community Band Performance
As part of the Monday assembly, we will be treated to a performance by the ISA Elementary School Band, who will be joined by members of the teacher and parent/carer community. They will perform two pieces of music, under the direction of Kent Walter. This performance touches on two of our core values: Community and Excellence.
Turkey/Syria Appeal
Please note that students and teachers at the school are discussing ways to provide material support for those in Turkey and Syria who continue to be affected by the recent earthquakes (and aftershocks). More information will be coming soon. In the meantime, information about the DEC appeal for Turkey and Syria is on the display screen beneath the Turkish flag in The Street.
