I hope all of our families had a very rewarding and relaxing holiday. I know our students certainly have come back recharged and full of enthusiasm. There are just over eight weeks left in the school year and your children’s teachers are ambitiously working to make the most of the time left in the calendar to create wonderful learning opportunities for all of their students.
There are a number of events on the calendar which are open to parent involvement, so we are hoping that you will be able to join in on many of the events you will be invited to over these final weeks. I hope you will be able to come to one or more occasions such as the Monday Assemblies, the next ES Lunchtime Concert (Friday, April 21), the International Festival evening (Thursday, April 27), or perhaps a performance of The Lion King Kids (performed by students in grades 3-5 on May 11 and 12). Information will continue to be posted for parents in the class blogs and the Community Hub. Please note that the upcoming Monday assembly schedule will be slightly disrupted. For one thing, on May 1 and May 8, the school will be closed. Also, there will not be a morning assembly on Monday, April 24; instead, the assembly on that day will be in the afternoon and will be dedicated to introducing our International Week. More information about that specific assembly will be heading your way very soon.
As we move further into spring (and, hopefully, warmer and drier weather), I would like to take a moment to remind families of a few after school items. When the weather is nice, the playground at the front of the school is an ideal place for parents and carers to gather informally while the children have a chance to play together. However, I would like to remind everyone that the children must be supervised directly during this time, just as they would be during school hours. They should not be left to play on their own and they should continue to follow the guidelines that are in place regarding the use of the equipment. This is primarily for their safety, but also to underscore the fact that the playground is a school space, even if they are using it outside of school hours. Please make sure that the children also are not venturing across the drive and continue to observe the boundaries that exist during school hours. Lastly, I would like to ask all families to do all they can to ensure that their children enter the school building each day on time. In order to maximise the learning experience for all children at the school, it certainly helps if the morning can start on time for everyone in the class.
