Learning how to cope with change builds resilience
Our counsellor's are busy helping the middle and high school students register for their next year courses. 5th grade is preparing for their first year in middle school and will be visiting 6th grade soon. Our 8th grade students are preparing for high school and learning all about pathways for IGCSE and IB. The principals are busy interviewing with new students in preparation for next school year, and all the students are having fun with some closure activities this spring.
Some of our students are preparing for international or school moves, and some are participating in fun goodbye activities for friends that are leaving. While all of these changes are exciting this time of year, the changes in routines can sometimes be distracting or worrying for the students.
Big Life Journal has some great advice on how to develop a growth mindset with change:
- Give them time to prepare
- Listen to their concerns
- Read books about big life changes
- Keep routines the same
- Provide connection or play
- Give them choices for a sense of agency
- Talk about changes that they have been successful with in the past
Don't forget to read more about helpful strategies in the Big Life Journal.
Warm regards,
