Moving on from ISA
This weekend is our high school graduation. It marks the end of school for our grade 12s and is an emotional time for families. Our ceremony has followed a similar format throughout the time I have been at the school, and probably longer. The pipes and drums certainly give a rousing finish to proceedings. I wish our graduating grade 12s and all our leavers from across the grade levels the very best for the next chapter of their lives. I hope they leave us with fond memories of their time at ISA and will think perhaps to share with their teachers how things are going for them further down the road.
Sadly, we also have to say farewell to several members of staff. Kate Smith has only been with us for a short period of time, taking over from Debbie Bicknell earlier this year. Kate’s middle school students have been excited by the inquiry based learning in her fun science lessons. I hope one day if a suitable opening arises, she will look to rejoin our team. Helene Brossard is moving overseas having supported many middle and high school learners in French. She has helped the department navigate the transition to the new language policy with great positivity and collegiality. Hazel Caunt who is moving to the US has done an incredible job of getting students to enjoy the challenge of maths in the two years she has been with us, helping all learners in her care to find success. Hazel has demonstrated a consistent ‘can-do’ attitude and been a real asset to the team. Lynne Isenor has contributed a lot to our middle and high school communities over four years as an English teacher and most recently has been supporting young people to effect change and build school spirit through her role as student council sponsor. Lynne is moving to a school in Abu Dhabi. Finally, Elaine Gibb is moving to South-east Asia and will be sorely missed by the student she has supported for several years. Elaine’s energy and enthusiasm greatly benefited the wider faculty.
We are grateful for all these teachers have brought to our community and wish them well for the future.
