End of Year Exchange of Information
With less than two weeks remaining in the school year, the prospect of lovely, long summer days has begun to enter the thoughts of many of us in the ISA community. The recent spells of sunshine and blue skies adds to the desire for more time to enjoy outdoor pursuits. For teachers, the last part of a school year brings great satisfaction. We use the final weeks as a time to compare results with our year-long objectives and to assess our needs for the next year. We also write reports for students and parents that highlight individual student achievement. In our last report card, we use the word ‘achievement’ instead of ‘progress’ to indicate that the final assessment comes at the end of a year in school. In essence, we are defining social and academic levels of progress at a given point in time. While we do not have another formal teacher conference, parents are encouraged to contact teachers with any questions or concerns they might have regarding a student’s achievement. (Teachers are happy to share ideas for maintaining skills over the summer.) The reports will be available to parents from June 14th.
Within the Preschool and Elementary School, a great deal of time and effort is put into making the transition from one grade to another as smooth as possible. All teachers are involved in meetings to exchange information on the students they are passing on to each other. For next year, we’ve already started planning new initiatives.
Parents who are moving away from Aberdeen at the end of the school year are reminded that we need your information as soon as possible, so that we can complete all of the necessary transfer forms in a reasonable manner during an especially busy period at the school.
It was lovely to see so many parents at our recent events, including the Preschool Sports Day, the G4/G5 Band & Choir Spring Concert, the Library Volunteer Coffee and the latest instalment of the ES Lunchtime Concert series. At the end of the year, there are still several opportunities for parents to share in school activities, such as the KG-G2 Sports Day (Tuesday, June 6) and the G3-5 Sports Day (Friday, June 9).
A huge thank you to the parents who volunteered their time, effort and culinary skills in providing the amazing Staff Appreciation Snack/Lunch on Thursday. It was a lovely gesture that comes at just the right time. Thank you, also, to those parents who have been able to volunteer their time to help with the various field trips taking place in these final weeks of the school year.
Looking ahead at our assemblies, just a few notes. Monday, June 5, will feature children who have been involved in the Cuban Salsa Dancing after school activity, as well as a recognition of students who have been working on their Junior Duke Awards. The assembly on Monday, June 12, will focus entirely on the class of Grade 5 students who will be leaving the Elementary School to move up to the Middle School in August. Please note that children with summer birthdays will be recognised on the final day of school.
