ISA Ride the North

On Saturday 26 August eight cycling members of the ISA team joined the larger cycling community as well as numerous north east communities to participate in the 2023 Ride the North cycling challenge.

Stephen Budd, Angus and Nancy Carmichael, Graham Comrie, Sarah Cusworth, Lulu Davies, Kate Higgins and Cruz Ordonez all took part in Ride the North, an annual cycling challenge that offers a sixty-four or one hundred mile route through and over the Grampian Highlands.

Kitted up in their custom ISA cycling jerseys, members rode both distances and at varying speeds, but the one consistent of the day was a sense of togetherness. The well-planned routes had common snack stops throughout the day, so riders on different routes were able to meet and share updates as well as the tea and traybakes that each stop sold in support of local charities.

Giving back is integral to Ride the North which has raised over two million pounds since its inaugural ride in 2011. This year continued the trend, as each village along the ride came together to support both the riders as well as local causes, supplying cheering and bells to revive weary spirits and selling tasty morsels to revive weary legs. There were bacon rolls and butteries along the route, but Rhynie and Aberchirder (Foggie to the locals) went above and beyond, hosting a brass band and full barbeque respectively.

ISA team organiser, Graham Comrie especially enjoyed “taking part in an event where individuals from all walks of life come together on a level playing field and [enjoy] the camaraderie and community that cycling brings”. The smiles, high fives and photos at the finish line suggested that neither the miles nor the intermittent rain exhausted any spirits.
