Interdisciplinary Learning and the Chocolate Project
Yesterday the most spectacular thing happened in Middle School. Students in groups laid out tables with the most incredible chocolate packages, with sleek, of the moment designs, swish corporate websites, and catchy video introductions. And then there was the chocolate... a delicious range of artisan hand crafted chocolates, from Oreo white chocolate, to dark chocolate berry creations.
All of that had been created from scratch in two days during the Middle School Interdisciplinary project.
Our programmes seek to align ever closer to the International Baccalaureate Organisation's philosophy. A key part of the philosophy of the International Baccalaureate, the world's most prestigious education programme, is the idea that whilst each discipline has a separate way of creating knowledge, the disciplines are most powerful as real world tools when they are combined back together. There are few if any real world problems that solely belong to one disciplinary domain. The image below is a reminder of how that works.
