Counsellor's Corner

Executive Function Skills

I enjoyed visiting 4th grade to practice some executive function skills during a partner activity last month.  We focused on working with a partner using perseverance, flexible thinking, and self control while doing the shared activity.  The students worked well together and came up with some great drawings! It took a lot of patience to take turns and make decisions with their partner, especially knowing that the drawing had to be collaborative.

It takes time to learn executive function skills and to remember to use them. We'll keep talking about some of these skills during our group lunch bunch times with the counsellor this year.

How can you improve executive function skills at home?  Harvard, and the Center on the Developing Child, gives us some great activities to improve executive function by age group:  Activities Guide: Enhancing and Practicing Executive Function Skills with Children from Infancy to Adolescence

Take a look, and try some of the fun activities at home!

Warm regards,
