Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed a delightful holiday season and welcomed in the new year with joy. It's a pleasure to witness the students returning to school, brimming with enthusiasm and energy for the upcoming semester. Anticipating a year of growth, joy and success, we thank you for your ongoing support and collaboration in your child's educational journey.
Upon their return to school, the children have enthusiastically recounted the experiences and adventures of the past three weeks. They spoke of various trips, engaging activities, and cherished moments spent with both family members and friends. Notably, several children shared that they hosted friends and family members who were visiting Aberdeen, adding a special touch to their holiday time.
Across the grades, there is a buzz of excitement as students engage in captivating learning activities, including creative writing, new science and social studies projects, new topics in mathematics and more! Meanwhile, our Preschool children resume their tireless and joyful exploration of the world, approaching it with curious and inquisitive minds.
In addition to the core subjects, the children have embarked on new units of study in their specialist subjects, too. The children may have already returned home this week, sharing highlights such as swimming lessons or printmaking in Art. The upcoming production of Seussical Kids (to be performed in May), featuring Grade 4 and Grade 5 students who have signed up for the after school Production Club, has generated considerable enthusiasm. Auditions, held this week, showcased immense talent and eagerness among the participants.
With the start of the new year, some changes have been introduced to the after-school activities. New clubs have emerged, existing ones have formed new cohorts, and adjustments have been made to the days certain clubs are offered. Thanks to the dedicated efforts and patience of our ES Assistant, Diane McBain, we believe we have successfully organized everything. Should any questions linger, please don't hesitate to reach out to us, allowing us to address concerns promptly. We ask that you consult PowerSchool (checking the "Bell Schedule View") to confirm after school activity places your child has been allocated.
Please note that next Friday (19 January 2024) marks the end of Quarter 2 in the Elementary School. The first day of the 3rd quarter is Monday, 22 January. The Quarter 2 report cards (which contain a narrative element for each subject area) will be available through PowerSchool on Friday, 26 January. Preschool children have their formal reports at the end of the school year (June 2024), which is in addition to the individual reports that are prepared and shared during the course of the year by each child’s key worker and Andrea Taylor. The first week back in 2024 has been marked by a highly successful return to school, with a positive and welcoming atmosphere resonating in the classrooms. Here's to a happy and healthy New Year for everyone in the ISA community!
