Counsellor's Corner

Learning a new language is good for you...

Learning a new language at an international school is an integral part of our holistic curriculum. Our language teachers at ISA are passionate about their subject, and the 10th grade students recently had the opportunity to talk with the IB language teachers during their Q&A lunch this week, in preparation for choosing IB subjects in 11th grade.  Ms Sanz, who grew up in Madrid, even wore her traditional Vestido de flamenca! (see picture above)

Learning a new language changes your brain for the better, and you can read all about it in Carley Spence’s article here. Carley Spence highlights several important reasons for learning a new language:

  1. Better academic performance

  2. Improved concentration

  3. A more powerful memory

  4. Stronger communication skills

  5. More creativity

Thank you for encouraging your child to embrace the opportunities of learning a new language during their journey of global citizenship at ISA!

Warm regards,

Valerie DeGraw
