Counsellor's Corner

How important is exercise for mental health?

Exercise for mental health is very important. For adolescents, regular exercise lowers the risk of depression, and promotes self esteem and connectedness.  There is a strong correlation with less anxiety in children who exercise.

Physical activity might also improve adolescent sleep patterns. Emotional self regulation and social skills are learned naturally through sports, along with the added benefit of helping to build new and varied social circles.

This month our ISA middle school boys and girls basketball teams had the opportunity to participate in a tournament with local and international teams (see picture above), followed by a social get together in the evening.  Badminton and Tennis are coming up this spring, don't forget to remind your children to get involved!

Warm regards,
