Note: This week's photos showcase a range of activities around the school, including a Grade 1 field trip to Dunnottar Woods, a Grade 3 PE class enjoying a beautiful spring day, some Grade 4 members of the Language and Cultural Advocates leading a discussion with the Grade 1 classes about what it means to be a Global Citizen, some Grade 4 students enjoying the newly-installed bench in the 50th Anniversary Garden and some of the students sowing seeds in the greenhouse as part of the Veg Growing club.
I hope all of our families had a very rewarding and relaxing holiday. I know our students certainly have come back recharged and full of enthusiasm. There are just over nine weeks left in the school year, and your children’s teachers are ambitiously working to make the most of the time left in the calendar to create wonderful learning opportunities for all of their students.
There are a number of events on the calendar which are open to parent involvement, so we are hoping that you will be able to join in on many of the events you will be invited to over these final weeks. I hope you will be able to come to one or more such occasions, such as the Monday morning assemblies, the next Lunchtime Concert (Friday, April 19), the International Festival evening (Thursday, April 25), or perhaps a performance of Seussical! (performed by students in Grades 4-5 on May 14 and 15). Information will continue to be posted for parents in the class blogs and the Community Hub.
Please note that the upcoming Monday assembly schedule will be slightly disrupted. This coming Monday (15 April) will feature the hugely anticipated performance of Pajama Party. This musical performance will showcase the learning and talents of the Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students. There will not be a morning assembly on Monday, April 22; instead, the assembly on that day will be in the afternoon and will be dedicated to introducing our International Week. More information about that specific assembly will be heading your way very soon. In addition, the school will be closed on Monday, May 6.
As we move further into spring (and, hopefully, warmer and drier weather), I would like to take a moment to remind families of a few after school items. When the weather is nice, the playground at the front of the school is an ideal place for parents and carers to gather informally while the children have a chance to play together. However, I would like to remind everyone that the children must be supervised directly during this time, just as they would be during school hours. They should not be left to play on their own and they should continue to follow the guidelines that are in place regarding the use of the equipment. This is primarily for their safety, but also to underscore the fact that the playground is a school space, even if they are using it outside of school hours. Please make sure that the children also are not venturing across the drive and continue to observe the boundaries that exist during school hours. This would include using the 50th Anniversary Garden area as a place for quiet activities that don't involve running or jumping around the space. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask your child or get in touch with me.
Lastly, I would like to ask all families to do all they can to ensure that their children enter the school building each day on time. As a father of three myself, I can appreciate the effort and coordination it takes for a family to get ready each morning. However, in order to maximise the learning experience for all children at the school, it certainly helps if the morning can start on time for everyone in the class. We appreciate all your efforts to help get the children in school, ready to learn each day.

International Week: Games Around the World - a final call for volunteers

As part of our International Week celebrations, we would like to close this year's event by hosting a Games around the World afternoon on Friday 26th April. This would be for Elementary students, who would attend different activities on during the afternoon.
Do you have any games/crafts/activities that are linked to your cultural heritage or country? Would you like to share this with Elementary students on Friday 26th April?
Some ideas include: a craft (such as origami), a board game, a playground game, a party game, a song, a dance, a puppet story….
