International Week 2024
You are warmly invited to the International Festival Evening on Thursday, 25 April, where you can enjoy a parade of identities, view cultural displays and performances, sample foods from around the world, listen to folktales and, perhaps most importantly, see student work related to learning about a diverse array of cultures, nationalities and identities. Although the Festival Evening runs from 6:00-8:00pm, the Preschool and Elementary sections of the school will be open from 5:15pm. Between 5:15 and 6:00pm, all the Preschool and Elementary children are encouraged to act as tour guides for their parents, family members and carers as they visit the classrooms and other displays, taking in examples of student learning in Social Studies, Science, Mathematics, Writing and more. They should stay with you throughout the tour of all the classes from Preschool through Grade 5. A walk through the school will also be memorable for the dazzling artwork and classroom displays that will greet visitors at every turn. Don't forget to view the Story Spoon display along the sloped walkway across from the library. For the parade, we will be walking together in unified grade-level groups. The children are invited to dress in national dress, but this does not need to be confined to one culture. In fact, it could represent a hybrid of all the cultures with which a student feels a particular connection. Students can also bring small flags with them should they wish. The evening will also feature a poetry recital by members of the Language and Cultural Advocates group. The poem was created using the words and ideas of all the children in the Elementary School, who were asked what it means to be a good global citizen. This poem was then translated into a wide variety of languages by the children in the Language and Cultural Advocates gropu. After the parade, be sure to join your children in sampling the diverse foods on offer. Try to get around to each table to see (and taste) for yourself the ways in which food connects us all.
International Week Assembly - Monday, April 22nd (2:00pm in the QET)
Each year group has been busy finalising plans to make for a most memorable occasion. We have a dynamic assembly on Monday afternoon (2:00pm in the QET) to officially start a week of sharing amongst all the classes. Please remember that due to limited space in the theatre, only one member of each household can attend the Monday, April 22 afternoon assembly. Please also remember that there will not be a Monday morning assembly.
Grade 5 to Grade 6 Transition - a parent Q&A session
There will be an online presentation (followed by a question and answer session) for the parents/carers of the current Grade 5 students. After the summer, these children will be in Grade 6, which means they will be in Middle School. This transition is exciting, but there are some important changes and some of the processes and procedures will differ from what school has been like in the Elementary School. All parents/carers of Grade 5 students are welcome to attend. Please use this link to join the Google Meet.
ISA Pathways Meeting - for all families
We would like to extend an invitation to parents and carers with children in Preschool, Elementary and Middle School to an informal, online presentation next Wednesday, April 24, at 8:30am. This session is for parents/carers who have questions about programmes and pathways running from Grades 9 to 12, including the IGCSE and IBDP. Although High School might still be many years away for your child/ren, you will be able to hear a brief overview before having the chance to ask questions about what to expect when that time comes.
