Counsellor's Corner

Student Wellbeing and Inclusion

These past few years we have been working on developing systematic approaches to whole school wellbeing at ISA. We take a Response to Intervention approach, with a focus on multi-tiered systems of support.

We often use the Shanarri wellbeing indicators when discussing holistic student wellbeing.  These indicators (Safe, Healthy, Achieving, Nurtured, Active, Respected, Responsible, and Included), help to guide how we assist students with positive growth academically, socially, and emotionally. The indicators are based on the Scottish safeguarding framework of “Getting it Right for Every Child” (Girfec).

We use the  Resilience Matrix to help stay trauma informed when considering factors for understanding behaviour and learning.

We look forward to continued development of whole school wellbeing at ISA next school year!

Warm regards,

Valerie DeGraw
