Autumn is here
Although we might not like to admit it, summer is well and truly (and scientifically) over. Autumn is here and that means extremely changeable weather. Case in point: we have had to postpone tomorrow's ISA Family Beach Clean due to Storm Amy and the forecast winds in excess of 50mph. Lauren Smith of the East Grampian Coastal Partnership (who never takes groups out when winds exceed 30mph, let alone 50mph) has agreed to pencil us in for an alternative date in the spring of 2026. Fingers crossed for better weather then!
Now that autumn is here, we would like your help in making sure that the children dress warmly and are prepared for rain, wind and low temperatures each and every day. It is important that all the children have coats that will protect them from cold winds and wet weather; a hoodie or fleece just isn’t enough.
In addition to the changes to the weather and temperature, the number of daylight hours will steadily decrease, meaning that it will get darker in the mornings and afternoons - precisely those times when our children are making their way to and from school. This is an ideal time, then, to remind everyone about road safety. This includes safety precautions that students can take while on campus, as well as considering your child’s visibility as the light fades. Wearing all black with a black backpack, for example, will make your child very difficult to see when making their way to and from the school building. Please consider adding reflective elements to your child’s clothing and bags. In class and during assemblies, we will remind the children about taking care near the drive and the parking areas, making sure to only use the marked crosswalks and to also stop, look and listen before crossing. It is especially important for children to be mindful of the coming and going of the buses at the start and end of the school day. We would appreciate it if you could reinforce these safety messages at home. We would also appreciate extra care when driving onto and away from campus.
CIS Accreditation Visit
Please read the Thistle Talk article posted by our Head of School, Nick Little. It explains the accreditation process and provides context for some visitors that our school will be hosting next week. The members of the accrediting team will want to observe classrooms and speak with groups of children about their experiences at ISA, so there is a good chance that your child will have the chance to meet with one or more of these visitors.
