A busy time!
Schools are really hectic places, until suddenly they aren’t and fall silent for a few weeks. This week we have had all kinds of trips, performances, visits and presentations. Right up to the last minute.
The PTO held a movie afternoon on Sunday. On Monday, Grade 1 went to Duthie Park. On Tuesday, middle school gave their music performance, and high school hosted Cults for basketball. On Wednesday Grade 11s had a day of science experiments. Yesterday, Grade 3 spent the day in Dundee, IB Art students appreciated Art in Aberdeen’s gallery, and preschoolers were wowed by a magical performance at the Lemon Tree. And today we rounded off the week with festive assemblies and for some, final goodbyes.

And through it all, students had normal classes: the older ones reflecting on last week’s exams; the younger ones continuing to learn new things.
This week, like all of those before it since August, had a great variety of activities. A great variety of children have participated in them. Both were united by a common sense of community and of purpose. Through our diversity, we are stronger.
In both the elementary and middle/high school assemblies students were reminded of the many types of winter festivals from Christmas to Deepavali: it is easy to get caught up in the superficial differences and miss the commonalities that unite as humans: the celebration of life and light, the sense of loss and rebirth through the seasons.
Over the next few weeks, I hope you all get the opportunity to rest and enjoy family in ways unique to you, but I am sure we can all identify with.
