Counsellor's Corner

When I was a child, I remember parents rallying together against television commercials marketing sugar-packed cereals to kids. Times have changed, and today's advocacy topics often revolve around technology.

A Fresh Wave of Hope for Youth

Change is finally coming to the digital world. Meta has agreed to a massive $18 billion settlement with US states, fundamentally shifting how major tech platforms handle youth safety.

With the UK government rolling out its own youth safety measures over time, tech giants are motivated to globalise these safety tools so families everywhere benefit from a healthier digital environment. Enhanced oversight options will mean parents get clearer, easier ways to manage screen time without having to constantly police their kids' devices.

For too long, raising teenagers meant navigating a digital wild west where apps were deliberately engineered to keep kids hooked. As global tech companies race to adapt, the burden is finally shifting away from parents and back onto the platforms where it belongs. We hope to see social media apps naturally evolve into less addictive, more balanced spaces, for our young people.

Even though the issues have evolved from breakfast cereal to complex digital algorithms, one thing remains constant, parents will always advocate for their children's wellbeing.

Have a lovely weekend!

Warm regards,
